The 4-star Uvala is a delightful hotel set in a beautiful location just 70 metres from the beach and only a short bus journey into the old walled city of Dubrovnik. Hotel Uvala is especially suited to adult couples looking for a peaceful break away from it all. Just relax by the pool or if you’re feeling energetic there are clay tennis courts (at the nearby Hotel Splendid) and on the beach you’ll find diving, sailing, kayaking and water skiing. Dubrovnik hosts a number of festivals in the summer and the helpful Uvala reception staff are on hand to make any bookings or reservations.

The spa is set over two floors, it was one of the first wellness centres in the area and, as well as a cardio gym, you’ll find aromatherapy, steam baths, a Jacuzzi and a whole host of massage and beauty treatments. Afterwards, take a dip in the indoor swimming pool. The Mantala restaurant offers a range of local Croatian and international dishes with an emphasis on healthy eating, and the terrace opens up for al fresco dining in the evening which overlooks Lapad Bay for spectacular views. The Razolin aperitif bar is the place for a pre-dinner drink or a late night cocktail.

Game of Thrones fans are in for a treat as Dubrovnik was the setting for Kings’ Landing, capital city of Westeros. You can see where King Joffrey faced a citizens’ riot and the site of the Battle of Blackwater. Moreover, take a gentle coastal walk around the village and enjoy dramatic views and frequent refreshment stops.

A city tour of Dubrovnik and a walk around its city walls is an absolute must during your holiday. It’s easily reached in 45 minutes from Cavtat by the regular boat service but do come early or late as the city can get very crowded especially when there’s a cruise ship in. The views of the city from the top of the cable car are breathtaking. You’ll need your passport to visit two of Dubrovnik’s neighbours. Mostar in Bosnia has bazaars where you’ll be invited to take tea or Turkish coffee with the stall holders. En route you’ll stop to cool down at the Kravce Waterfalls. Or why not travel south to the small country of Montenegro and explore Kotor and Budva?
