The Enotel Lido Madeira Hotel really does have it all. It has direct access to Funcal’s famous Lido Promenade with amazing views out to sea, superb leisure facilities for adults and children, a range of dining options and easy access to the town centre.
Relax in the sun by the hotel’s pools one of which is reserved for children and there’s an indoor pool for cooler days at the beginning and end of the season. After a couple of days rest and relaxation, you’ll be ready to join in the hotel’s entertainment programme which has a number of mostly pool-based activities.
Children (4-12 years) will be welcome at Enokids where arts and crafts, sports, dance and drama await them. If you’re a gym member at home there’s no need to miss a workout as the hotel has an air-conditioned gym. For the less energetic, there’s a pool table and table tennis. In the evening, enjoy the hotel’s shows, live music, live DJ, bingo and quizzes.
The Enotel Lido Madeira Hotel is offered on an all-inclusive basis which makes holiday budgeting easy. Guests will enjoy a buffet-style breakfast, lunch and dinner in the main Atlantico restaurant and snacks are available for at least three hours a day. Drinks (conditions apply) are served for a minimum of 12 hours a day. All-inclusive guests are also entitled to eat once at no extra charge at one of the hotel’s à la carte restaurants including Kai (Japanese cuisine), O Bailinho (local cuisine) or Italian dishes at Vela di Canale (reservations required). If you’re planning a day out exploring the island, just tell the hotel the day before and they’ll be only too pleased to organise a packed lunch for you.
Madeira’s mild climate makes it an ideal destination at any time of the year and it’s a beautiful island to get to know. The 500 year old capital city of Funchal is best explored on foot. Don’t miss the 16th century Gothic cathedral, the Farmers’ Market where you’ll be tempted to try bolo del mel (honey cake) which is delicious and the Säo Tiago fort which now houses the Museum of Contemporary Art.
It would be a shame not to stop off at one of the wine lodges and taste that Madeira wine! There are two world-renowned Botanical Gardens. The Madeira Botanical Gardens and the Monte Palace Tropical Gardens which you can reach by cable car and enjoy superb views on the way. If you’re hiring a car, head out of town and explore the levadas, the old irrigation channels which now open up some superb walks amid unspoilt and beautiful scenery.
There are plenty of boat trips on offer which give you to chance to search for whales and dolphins. Taking a dip knowing you’re actually swimming in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean is quite an experience. Madeira is world famous for its festivals. On New Year’s Eve, the fireworks displays are legendarily matched only by the display for the Festival do Atlantico in June. If you come in April or May you’ll be able to enjoy the renowned flower festival, Festa da Flor, which culminates in the colourful parade, the Cortejo Alegórico.
