The Pestana Alvor Praia is a 5-star hotel in Alvor, on Portugal’s beautiful Algarve. Located on Praia dos Três Irmãos, one of Algarve’s best beaches, complete with white sands and tranquil, crystal-clear waters it’s surrounded by expansive gardens, an outdoor swimming pool and even has an elevator for direct beach access. The Pestana Alvor Praia hotel’s facilities are as impressive as its location. If you wish to relax, visit the Magic Spa by Pestana where you can enjoy a massage or beauty treatment, the Turkish bath or the gym. As well as the beach, there is a huge outdoor pool with a children’s area and an indoor pool. If you’re travelling with the family there’s a Kids Club for those aged 4-12 years, minigolf and a playground. Golfers are spoilt for choice with no less than eight courses within 15 km.
Dining in a 5 star hotel is always one of the holiday highlights and here is no exception. The Almofariz restaurant serves buffet-style breakfast and lunch or if you prefer a la carte there are the Sul (open 5 days a week) or Oceana restaurants. Drinks and snacks are available in the hotel’s bar or by the poolside.
Although the Pestana Alvor Praia hotel has really superb facilities it would be a shame to come to the Algarve and not venture a little further afield. The village of Alvor is just 2km away with its 16th-century church and narrow, cobbled streets leading down to the pretty harbour which is lined with bars and seafood restaurants. If you’re a “twitcher” a huge variety of birds can usually be spotted on the Alvor wetlands. Or why not visit the other nearby resorts of Praia de Rocha (3.5km) or Portimåo (5km)? Portimåo is known for its old quarter and busy marina. The museum there is housed in a 19th-century cannery and has interesting displays of local history. For something completely different, head for the Autodromo International Racing Circuit where they offer everything from Go-Karting to racing car experiences! If all that sounds too energetic, why not join one of the many boat trips available from the local beaches and explore this beautiful coastline at a more leisurely pace?
