Cavtat is a delightful little fishing village on a sunny peninsula close to, but away from, the hustle and bustle of Dubrovnik itself. The three-star Hotel Supetar is a delightful old three storey townhouse set right on the promenade that surrounds the harbour.
There are two open terraces ideal for sunbathing and guests staying here can enjoy all the facilities of its neighbouring sister hotel, the Hotel Croatia, including the swimming pool, sun loungers, gym and spa.
Although there’s a huge choice of local bars and restaurants on the Hotel Supetar Cavtat’s doorstep, the hotel’s restaurant with its romantic alfresco terrace enjoys an excellent reputation. As well as fish and meat dishes, the Supetar Restaurant offers a good choice of vegetarian and other healthy dining options.

It’s easily reached in 45 minutes from Cavtat by the regular boat service but do come early or late as the city can get very crowded especially when there’s a cruise ship in. The views of the city from the top of the cable car are breathtaking. You’ll need your passport to visit two of Dubrovnik’s neighbours. Mostar in Bosnia has bazaars where you could be invited to take tea or Turkish coffee with the stallholders. En route, you’ll stop to cool down at the Kravce Waterfalls. Or why not travel south to the small country of Montenegro and explore Kotor and Budva?
